KDMC Opens Doors to New Services with Public Event
BROOKHAVEN – King’s Daughters Medical Center hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House to demonstrate two new health and wellness services now available at the hospital.
The medical center has recently added Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Sleep Center studies to its list of services for patients in the area.
“We added these services to accommodate the medical and wellness needs of people living in our area,” said Johnny Rainer, chief development officer. “These are specialized services and we are proud to able to offer them in a smaller service area. The continued benefit is that patients needing rehabilitation with their breathing and sleep assessments can stay here in Brookhaven and not travel up to hour or two to under go these evaluations.”
MRHC Wins Aster Award
CORINTH – The Aster Awards, hosted by Marketing Healthcare Today and Creative Images, Inc., is an elite competition recognizing the nation’s most talented healthcare professionals for outstanding excellence in advertising. Magnolia Regional Health Center was honored with the Gold Award in the 2007 competition.
With approximately three thousand entries, participants in the Aster Awards compete against similarly-sized organizations from all across the United States. Judging criteria include Creativity, Layout & Design, Typography, Production Quality, Knowledge Transfer and Overall Excellence. Entries receiving a perfect score of 100 percent receive the coveted Judge’s Choice award.
“Magnolia Regional Health Center scored in the top 5 percent of the judging process. Magnolia Regional Health Center clearly exhibited outstanding excellence in healthcare marketing. It was an honor to have Magnolia Regional Health Center participate in this year’s competition,” said Melinda Lucas, Program Coordinator, Aster Awards.

Entries in the Aster Awards were judged by a diverse panel of individuals, who are all experts in the field of healthcare marketing. All winners are posted on the official web site, www.AsterAwards.com, as well as honored in the June issue of the Marketing Healthcare Today magazine.
DRMC Awarded for Clinical Excellence
GREENEVILLE – VHA Inc., a national health care alliance, has bestowed upon Delta Regional the 2007 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence. VHA recognizes top performing members and presents them with VHA Leadership Awards.
The 2007 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence recognizes Delta Regional Medical Center for exceeding national performance standards in clinical care. Along with the Clinical Excellence Award, DRMC was also recognized and received honors in multiple clinical sub-categories. Delta Regional’s sub-category honors include:
- prevention of surgical infections
- treatment for congestive heart failure
- prevention of blood stream infections
DRMC was officially honored at VHA’s Leadership Conference in Denver, Colorado on May 20, 2007. Of the 277 hospitals recognized, only 20 hospitals received awards in three different clinical areas. Delta Regional was among those 20 hospitals.
“Our physicians and clinical staff here at Delta Regional have worked extremely hard to improve and enhance the care delivery system, and as a result of that effort, we are being recognized,” stated Allyson Williams, Chief Operating Officer. “It is gratifying to see our hospital team win this Leadership Award.”
Pharmacy Assistance Center Receives Award
Recently, VHA Inc., a national health care alliance based in Irving, Texas, recognized Forrest General Hospital for supply chain management improvement. The award is being presented for efforts related to Dispensing to the Forgotten Population. This initiative has significantly improved the efficiency and effectiveness of the hospital’s supply chain efforts.
“This award gives us recognition for being innovative in finding a way to help the indigent portion of our population receive prescription drugs at an affordable price,” said Steve Albrittion, Forrest General’s Director of Pharmacy. “We are saving the poorest segment of our community tens of thousands of dollars every month.”
Diaz Joins Staff of BRMC
BILOXI – Michael Diaz, MD, Plastic Surgeon, has joined the medical staff of Biloxi Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Diaz attended medical school at Ponce School of Medicine and recently completed his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at Louisiana State University.
Dr. Diaz will specialize in Plastic Surgery including cosmetic and reconstructive surgery as well as provide Botox, Restylane and hair removal. Dr. Diaz was named Most Outstanding Surgical Resident in his 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th years at LSU and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. In addition, he has served his community as Chairman of several blood drives and fund raising events.
